It Starts with Spec Confirmation, Not Tooling
Before any mold or PCB work begins, a credible manufacturer should confirm your target spec, compliance markets and customization scope in writing — skipping this step is the most common cause of costly late-stage revisions.
Existing-Design vs. New Tooling Samples
If your product can reuse an existing shell or PCB platform, sample timelines run 10-15 days. If it requires new mold or PCB tooling, expect 20-30 days as the manufacturer machines new tooling before a sample can be built.
Firmware Runs in Parallel
For products with companion apps or custom firmware, development typically runs in parallel with hardware sampling rather than starting after — a manufacturer that only starts firmware work after the physical sample is done is adding unnecessary time to your timeline.
